Biography

Woke up and had that #rageintheguts. Who is in? #straightintheface! #PENGPENG!

Nobody needs the #backbreakingroutines and #repetitivepatterns of our everyday lives. Nor the #selfdeception or our #shittydigital:-) profiles!

We give a f**k about #ethicalselfcontrol and #hipster-narcissists! We are not free, we are #GenerationY! ROFL! #hashtag

In their latest production, PENG! Palast deals with the alleged freedom and self-determination of generation Y in a critical way. The basis of this project lies in the actors’ own biographies—daily routines and experiences in badly paid side jobs, smelly and stuffy kickboxing basements and cosy support groups.

Inspired by the novel Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk, PENG! Palast creates its own fighting arena to live out suppressed desires, only to get knocked out by its own utopias.

Only those who are willing to risk defeat have the ability to win.
Will YOU be accepted?
#membersonly!?

"Theatre is rarely good for surprises—but now and again surprises still happen. [...] The play doesn’t go easy on the spectators. The language is crude and the rage which is being built up seems genuine. Then the three protagonists start fighting, «to feel [themselves] again» […].”

—Michael Feller, BZ

This performance includes a workshop. Audience are required to attend all segments. No refunds will be given for partial attendance.

Supported by Embassy of Switzerland in Singapore, Pro Helvetia, Kultur Stadt Bern and Kanton Bern.

Through the examination of their biographies, fears and desires, PENG! PALAST condenses theatre classics or bestsellers into a personal space to create a realistic and contiguous experience for the audience.

RELATIONSHIP TO ART & SKIN

FIGHT! PALAST #membersonly is a very physical performance—the protagonists literally spar with each other for real on stage. In fact, the audience is going to see a lot of skin and will even get in touch with it.

The protagonists are trapped in their own skin. Yet they feel like it is not even theirs anymore, but just digital profiles ruled by high expectations of their lives. Those profiles inhibit any true contact with each other, and everything starts to feel fake. They try to break out. They rip off their fancy clothing to look for their animalistic origins and true joy or pain. And they invite you to do the same.
