In Japan, it is not unusual to find many people who are too afraid of getting hurt, and who, as a result, choose to live in virtual reality. For instance, adult men fall seriously in love with girlish cartoons characters which appear child-like, albeit with appropriate womanly curves; or people who resort to online matchmaking websites, who realise that since there is no necessity to give their personal information, they do not need real commitment and can erase the relationship whenever they want. anti-cool aims to express this ‘dislocation’ from reality in a series of movements.
