Virgin or Veteran?

Welcome to the third M1 Singapore Fringe Festival. We have been working hard putting this Festival together for more than a year, and we’re excited that it’s finally here for all of you to enjoy. There’s a range of events – international and Singapore artists, ticketed and free events, theatre, dance, exhibitions, and lots more. You’ll be spoilt for choice!

In order to guide you on the nature of the events, this year we have prepared a ‘Festival Recommendation’. We have divided the works into ‘Virgin’ and ‘Veteran’. How many times have we watched a show and found it too inaccessible for us? So, this recommendation is to help you decide what to watch. Virgin means no problem, anyone can enjoy the show. Shows with a Veteran recommendation may be a little tougher to swallow. But please, feel free to disagree with us on the recommendations. Be bold!

We also have events that are venue-centred. That way you can get ‘more for less’. Spend an evening at the Esplanade, and you can catch short films at the Concourse, artworks at Jendela and performances in the theatres. We also have concurrent events at the Singapore Art Museum and the National Museum.

Before I end, I must give a shout out to two Festival highlights. The first is Survivor Singapore. This crazy, madcap take on student life will run at the Jubilee Hall from 30 Jan – 1 Feb 2007. It’s written by me and directed by Natalie Hennedige. The second event is the 48-Hour Inclusive Design Challenge and Exhibition. Details can be found inside this booklet.

So join us from 30 Jan – 11 Feb 2007. Whether you’re a Virgin or a Veteran, a student or a professional, be a part of the Fringe and enjoy all the exciting works we have to offer. Get involved.
